Sophie
Finances, digital and shopping.
Sophie was referred to Your Support by an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. She had been involved in a road traffic accident 18 months previously which had left her with such severe injuries, she was now confined to her bed with carers visiting 4 times a day. Since the accident, Sophie had been unable to deal with bills and paperwork and needed support to get rid of a car she still was financing from before her accident. Sophie felt upset and frustrated she had let her paperwork get on top of her.
Sophie’s Key Worker supported her weekly to clear the backlog of paperwork and set up direct debits for her utility bills. Her car had been sitting unused for 18 months so her Keyworker contacted the AA for them to get the car battery running before the car could be handed back to the finance company. As Sophie is confined to her bed, the Key Worker was available to hand the car back to the company and then supported Sophie to cancel the car insurance.
Sophie’s Key Worker also helped her set up Ebay and Amazon accounts on her phone. Sophie has very poor eyesight so had struggled doing anything online as she could not see. Her Keyworker showed her how to make the font size bigger- something which Sophie describes as a ‘godsend’.
Sophie wanted to get rid of an old sofa so Your Support contacted Renewal Northwest who collected it. She also wanted to set up a will, and was supported to contact legal services and explain she would need a home visit to complete her will.
Sophie now has her paperwork under control and has all support in place. Age UK provided her with a tablet and she now uses this to download books. Sophie is now up to date with bills and has direct debits have all been set up. Her Keyworker showed her how to access her online banking and she can now track her incomings and outgoings which Sophie says has been “such a relief”. Sophie has ongoing support from Tandem who will do shopping and light cleaning for her and will also help her with reading and responding to mail.
Sophie stated, when asked about Your Support, “it’s been brilliant, it’s made me feel a lot less stressed, a lot more in control”. She also commented that, “my Key Worker went at my pace, she wasn’t just interested in what I needed to get done, she asked about my life, my jobs, she was really interested in me”.
Sophie says that if you are thinking of contacting Your Support, “you couldn’t do better. They have been brilliant, my Key Worker was professional, understanding and has helped me get control of things”.
